The K2 Space team worked with Latham & Watkins, one of the largest global law firms and their project team to create a new workplace design concept for their Manchester office that represented a wholly new departure from any of their other UK offices, and also from law firms in general.
We acted as the main furniture dealer and worked closely with their global workplace team to define their office furniture requirements which were to develop a more agile, flexible and homely work environment that was designed to be different and somewhere that staff enjoyed working.
The space is not what you would typically expect from a law firm environment and has embraced a funky, retro vibe with a variety of alternate work settings available to staff to choose from. The emphasis was on trying something radical, completely new and experimental for a law firm as they strove to attract some of the best young talent in the marketplace.
Their ethos was centered around creating a workplace that was both comfortable and aspirational, and consequently vibrant, colourful and homely furniture is prominent in every part of the office with spaces designed for collaboration, concentration and even relaxation dotted throughout.
A large wonderwall feature defines the main space which is also furnished with beautiful chesterfield sofas, soft seating and an abundance of deliberate design touches that add a sense of fun to the space including a retro video game machine, a classic turntable record player accompanied by a full vinyl collection and also some literary classics dotted throughout for staff to read.
This brave new departure from what are perceived to be law firm office design norms meant that this was a particularly interesting and enjoyable project to work on, and personally, we think the results are stunning.
