We are absolutely delighted with our newly fitted-out offices, thanks to the exceptional work of K2 Space. Transforming an old banking hall into a modern yet characterful workspace was no small task, but their team approached the project with a deep respect for the building’s history. From the outset, they worked tirelessly to expose and retain the period features that make this space so unique, ensuring that its heritage was not only preserved but celebrated.

A Bold Transformation of a 1930s Bank
Alfreton Capital’s new HQ in Radlett is a stunning blend of history and modernity. Working closely with the client, K2 Space reimagined the former Barclays Bank building, retaining its iconic period elements—including the original architraves and steel vault door—while infusing contemporary design touches and cutting-edge workplace functionality.
This adaptive reuse project honours the building’s heritage and offers a unique, character-filled environment for Alfreton Capital’s team by preserving and repurposing existing features.

Transforming The Space
Transforming a 1930s former bank into a character‑filled, future‑ready workspace. By preserving signature period details like the original architraves and steel vault door, we created spaces like this light‑filled reception area framed with period panelling, warm herringbone flooring, and a striking black‑stained doorway leading into the boardroom.

Preserving History, Embracing Modernity
The design approach emphasises adaptive reuse and the thoughtful integration of old and new. K2 Space focused on retaining the building’s historical charm, restoring original architraves, and ensuring the steel vault door remained a focal point in the entrance. By repurposing existing features, the project minimises demolition waste and embodied carbon. This balance between preserving history and introducing modern elements gives the workspace a sense of continuity, bridging past and present in a bold, imaginative way.

The Vault: A Show-Stopping Focal Point
One of the project’s most striking elements is the repurposed bank vault. Once a symbol of secure banking, the original steel vault door now leads to a multi-functional meeting room lined with handcrafted aluminium “safety deposit boxes.” This nod to the building’s history creates a memorable setting for client meetings, brainstorming sessions, and confidential discussions. Lightweight, durable aluminium was selected for its sustainability benefits, allowing the design to balance aesthetic impact with a reduced environmental footprint.
