DTRE achieves BREEAM status with K2 Space’s new office design
DTRE completed an 11,000 sq. ft office space that satisfied rigorous sustainability standards. The undertaking was finished in approximately 4.5 months, and in August 2022, the BREEAM accreditation gave it a "very good" rating. To achieve this, the project team had to meet a variety of requirements across nine categories: management, health and wellbeing, energy, transport, water, materials, waste, pollution, and innovation. This involved the use of energy-efficient light bulbs equipped with motion sensors, as well as managing glare and light levels to create the best possible working environment for staff.

One of the primary benefits of the design and build model is that it delivers a high-quality fit out at a typically lower cost and quicker turnaround time. D&B projects are typically completed around 30% quicker than the traditional method which includes multiple separate parties. In summary, the benefits of a design and build project include:
- Improved Cost Control: It provides the client with a degree of control over costs, as the contractor generally agrees to assume design and construction responsibilities for a predetermined fee. All research comparing building approaches suggests that design-build is much less expensive. Under D&B contracts, cost growth is significantly lower as in the overall cost savings due to minimal conflicts, delays and additional expenses.
- Easier to Manage: Having a single point of contact for the customer to interact with after the contract has been granted may also simplify matters.
- Quicker Completions: Design and build may be favourable in terms of time, since it permits the overlap of design and construction, hence shortening the total duration of a project’s completion. When your design and construction teams collaborate, the timetable will be much more efficient. This will result in fewer bottlenecks and more concurrent work possibilities. Studies demonstrate that design-build projects are completed up to 33% quicker than typical construction projects.
- Reduced Financial Risk: The contractor assumes the majority of financial risk (which may be reflected in the predetermined fee).
